I'd like to explain you that, but i'm still having trouble working out a good description for it.
Lets just say its flash, but more specialised for website applications as opposed to animation. If you want to get into learning it, i'd advise you pick up "Flex 2, learning from the source" which can be found for pretty cheap on amazon. It may look quite crazy, but once you understand what everything does, it's a pussycat. Look at what it can do though  http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/samples/flex_store/
