What exactly is this flex stuff?

Seems to be pretty popular around this site...

I'd like to explain you that, but i'm still having trouble working out a good description for it.

Lets just say its flash, but more specialised for website applications as opposed to animation.

If you want to get into learning it, i'd advise you pick up "Flex 2, learning from the source" which can be found for pretty cheap on amazon.

It may look quite crazy, but once you understand what everything does, it's a pussycat.

Look at what it can do though http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/samples/flex_store/

According to Adobe -
Quote:
Adobe® Flex™ 2 software is a rich Internet application framework based on Adobe Flash® that will enable you to productively create beautiful, scalable applications that can reach virtually anyone on any platform. It includes a powerful, Eclipse™ based development tool, an extensive visual component library, and high-performance data services enabling you to meet your applications' most demanding needs.

In simpler words, Flex is just a more user friendly interface. tom is right in saying it's like Flash, but just more rich I guess is a good word
